TAPI for Industry

As a means to encourage the industry to appreciate and engage in research and development (R&D), the R&D Opportunities for Industries Forum was organized on 18 July 2019 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila, Pasay City.

Coincided with the celebration of the 2019 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW), the forum was a joint effort by the Science for Change (S4C) Program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in partnership with the Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) and Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI).

The resource speakers, a roster of technical experts from S4C, DOST-ITDI, and DOST-TAPI, featured some of the DOST readily-adoptable technologies as well as the various DOST programs in which the industry players can get funding opportunities from.

“The forum is intended for Filipino private companies aimed at increasing their market competitiveness through R&D,” said Anya Yasmin A. Roslin, Project Officer III of S4C.

Jund Rian A. Doringo of DOST-TAPI presented the Institute’s programs of assistance that can accommodate the speedy commercialization of the industry’s products and innovations after an initial R&D.

“DOST-TAPI’s programs for the industry complement R&D activities of DOST’s research and development institutes (RDIs) as well as other research institutions in the country to ensure that beneficiaries are given opportunities to establish technology-based enterprises,” said Doringo.

Some of DOST-TAPI’s major programs presented were Technology Innovation for Commercialization (TECHNICOM), Venture Financing Program (VFP) and Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Program (IPRAP).

TECHNICOM provides financial grants and technical assistance to fast-track the commercialization of technologies while VFP assists startups and technology-based expansions projects accelerate their businesses through acquisition of production equipment and technical expertise.

IPRAP, on the other hand, assists in securing intellectual property protection through the provision of filing fees and consultations.

The forum was attended by more than 50 industry players, government offices, and media partners.
