The Beekeepers’ Network Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Beenet Philippines) recognized the Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) valuable support to the beekeeping industry during the Beenet Philippines Conference and Technofora on 24-26 July 2019 at the Lima Park Hotel, Malvar, Batangas.
Celebrating the organization’s 25th Anniversary, Beenet Philippines is a national organization composed of beekeepers, bee researchers, and extension specialists housed at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Institute of Biological Sciences.
In the early 2000’s, Beenet Philippines is one of the beneficiaries of DOST-TAPI’s DOST Technology Training Center (DTTC) Program which provided financial assistance in the preparation and conduct of technology training when the organization was starting in the industry.
The discontinued Program aimed to expedite technology transfer through the conduct of technology training courses, development of technology modules, and production of self-learning audio-visual presentations on but not limited to DOST technologies among entrepreneurs, industry players, inventors, and educators.
Mr. Alberto D. Marcia, President of Beenet Philippines Luzon Chapter and Conference Chairperson, recalled how Beenet Philippines was grateful to DOST-TAPI’s support especially during the early stage of their establishment.
“This conference enjoins us to work for a common goal in developing the beekeeper industry as a sustainable livelihood,” said Marcia.
“We take pride in Beenet Philippines’ achievements in advocating beekeeping in the country and we wish that the organization continues to grow and encourage other bee farmers to not only engage in the beekeeping business but protect the bees,” said Fernando.
The celebration was attended by beekeeping enthusiasts who participated in the three-day activity of exhibits, contests, conference tours, and technology fora.
