Mission: Innovation

BCYF Innovation Awards by the Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation in partnership with the University of Asia and the Pacific, Department of Science and Technology, TEVSAPHIL, and presented by iRemit Inc.

Innovation is arguably the main driver in initiating difference for the better and uplifting the welfare of the general population towards economic and social development as evidenced in a postmodern world.

The rise of new technologies, the new media for example, has inevitably revolutionized the way businesses communicate and transact, taking all risks of failure while welcoming revenues with no reservations.

The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) has been a keen promoter of innovations since its conception in 1987. Serving as an effective and efficient dispensing body of deliverables to stakeholders and the general public, TAPI has been a consistent ally and supporter of Filipino inventions and breakthroughs by providing assistance through grants, consultancies, and contract researches.

TAPI’s continued efforts has been recognized by the recently concluded Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation (BCYF) Innovation Awards where seven (7) unprecedented TAPI programs were nominated along with 53 other nominees in the government service category on 20 February 2017 at the Kalayaan Hall, Malacañang Palace, Manila.

Fast Tracking Commercialization

The Technology Innovation for Commercialization (TECHNICOM) is an effort for fast tracking the transfer of research outputs through technical assistance and financial grant, responsive to the needs of the research and development sectors and the industries.

Focused on the local community, the Science and Technology Application for Rural Development (STARDev) provides funds to hasten the transfer, adoption, and utilization of locally developed technologies. In turn, this can increase the accessibility of technologies for the livelihood projects in the community.

Competency Provisions

A level-up strategy that provides focused consultancy interventions to micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSME), Consultancy for Agricultural and Manufacturing Productivity Improvement (CAMPI) provides strategic planning for higher profitability and productivity throughout the country.

Holding on to the “children are our future” mantra, the DOST Academe Technology-Based Enterprise Development (DATBED) nurtures entrepreneurial skills through enterprise trainings and funding to create highly marketable and viable technological innovations developed by students.

Holistic Support

Chances are, purchasing orders can exceed budgetary targets due to lack of proper coordination or miscommunication in protocols. The Purchase Order (PO) Financing Facility of the Venture Financing Program (VFP) avoids this problem by advancing the cost of raw materials and allowing finances of irrevocable PO of MSMEs.

Through the Fairness Opinion Board (FOB), technology owners and takers are given orientations on the requirements and provisions of the law, consultancy services, fairness opinions and expert recruits.

The Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Program (IPRAP) secures intellectual property (IP) protection for Filipino inventors and researchers through funds assistance and other IP filings including utility model, industrial design, trademark, and copyright applications.

These are just some of the few programs that TAPI takes pride on doing and being nominated for these undertakings validate TAPI’s endeavors in building a responsible and sustainable society through science and technology initiatives.
