DOST-TAPI, inventors sign MOA for enterprise development

Three (3) inventors recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Technology Application Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI), formalizing the provision of assistance for pilot production and market testing of Green Eco-Toilet System and Cylinder Masonry Breaker, and for production cost in satisfying the unmet demand of MYKL Kiti-Kitix on 28 June 2017 at the DOST-TAPI Conference Room.

The inventions which deemed to be technically and commercially viable were granted financial assistance under the Industry-Based Enterprise Development (IBED) Program, one of the leading programs of DOST-TAPI for inventors.

The IBED Program supports the development of an invention through funds assistance for pilot production, in becoming a business enterprise by making the invention available to the consumers.

Moreover, the Program also provides funds for the development and commercialization of an invention in a pilot production scale and assist the inventor to be an emerging inventor-entrepreneur.

Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, Division Manager of the Invention Development Division and Ms. Mechelle DV. Balboa, Program Manager of IBED led the signing of MOA with Mr. Daniel Camacho, Founder of Greenway Toilet Solutions, Mr. Joel C. Miguel, Owner of Cylinder Masonry Breaker, and Mr. Lyle Christian R. Herbosa, President of MYKL Trading, Inc.

“I am very pleased to be a beneficiary of the IBED Program,” Camacho said.

The Green Eco-Toilet System (GETS) is a water-saving piping system for toilet and bathroom units which recycles and reuses wastewater from showers and lavatory.


“The financial assistance is a big help in covering the cost of GETS’s raw materials in producing twenty-five (25) units,” Camacho added.

Having earned the First Prize in the DOST-TAPI’s 2016 National Invention Contest and Exhibit (NICE) for the Utility Model Category, GETS is specifically relevant to the “pail and dipper” pouring system of the Filipino culture as the water used for showering is reused for toilet flushing.

“The Cylinder Masonry Breaker has big potential in the market especially among disaster risk reduction and management programs in the country,” stated Miguel.

The invention, also known as a “manual jackhammer”, does not require electricity or fuel and does not emit waste or heat, making it accessible, low-maintenance, and environment-friendly.

“Now under Component 2 of the IBED Program, the commercialization of MYKL Kiti-KitiX is ready to become a reality,” Herbosa said.

Also known as Mosquito Larvicide Comprising of Calcium Hydroxide and Clinoptilolite kills mosquito larvae and controls the emergence of adult mosquito which acts as a disease carrier.

Backed by researches from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), University of the Philippines, Los Baños (UPLB), Center for Health Development (CHD), and Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), the MYKL Kiti-KitiX has found the invention effective as larvicidal against dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

“It is our hope that with MYKL Kiti-KitiX, the dengue prevalence in the country will decrease in a minimal low,” Herbosa added.

With the assistance of the IBED Program to the inventors, a hassle-free technology transfer of inventions to possible clients and accessibility of the invention products in the market are possible.
