The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) showcased technologies from DOST agencies in food and industrial technology research and development (R&D) during the Food and Hotel Expo Manila (FHEM) 2018 on 16-18 February 2018 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

With the continuous expansion of the food service industry in the Philippines as well as the entrants of global restaurant brands, the FHEM became a venue for industry players to come together, interact, and share views on strengthening the local food, beverage, and hotel scene to become at par with the international trends.

FHEM 2018 has provided a venue for DOST-TAPI to exhibit the iron-fortified rice and stabilized brown rice developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).

Moreover, technologies from the Food Innovation Center (FIC), a one-stop food innovation R&D center which helps empower micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSME) were also showcased during the event.

Around 250 exhibitors participated in FHEM 2018 while around a thousand of potential investors joined in cooking demonstrations, food and beverage tasting, and food-related business presentations and lectures from notable resource persons.

DOST-TAPI’s programs and services for start-up businesses as well as intellectual property rights (IPR) assistance were introduced during visitors’ inquiries as support for MSME to fulfill their aspirations to venture in the food service industry.
