The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) launched the Strategic Promotion through Integrating Collaboration and Engagement of SMEs to Support the Technology Transfer and Commercialization of DOST-developed Technologies including Testing Laboratories and Services or #SPICEStoDOSTLabS in 2019.

Through the Technology Transfer Day Project, #SPICEStoDOSTLabS aimed to promote the DOST laboratories and services to the industry stakeholders, specifically the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME).
The event also provided a platform for actual demonstration, orientation, and information dissemination to stakeholders.
The first DOST laboratories featured were the Advanced Device and Materials Testing Laboratory (ADMATEL) followed by the Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) and the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).
Due to the coronavirus disease pandemic, the Institute held the first online #SPICEStoDOSTLabS in 2020.
The virtual event featured the laboratories of the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC), the lead center in developing and expanding the metals industry while fostering the advancement of metal engineering and allied industries in the country.
The other DOST laboratories featured were the National Metrology Laboratory (ITDI-NML), the Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI), and the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI).
“Unfortunately, most of the industry sectors are unaware of the technologies developed by the DOST,” said former DOST-TAPI Director Edgar I. Garcia.
He added that #SPICEStoDOSTLabS bridged the gap between the DOST laboratories and the private sector.
“Research and development is incomplete if not applied and transferred as a technology to the adopters,” emphasized DOST Undersecretary Rowena Cristina L. Guevara.
She urged the participants to take this opportunity to learn more about the available technologies and services of DOST.
