With the theme, “Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development,” the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) and the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE) co-organized by the Technology Application and Promotion Instiute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) and DOST Region VIII, were simultaneously held on 09-11 August 2019 at the Robinsons Place, Tacloban City, Leyte.

The three-day event showcased exhibits of technologies and inventions including forums on the Community-Based Projects Summit cum Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (EVHRDC), Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST), and Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

The event also served as a venue in honoring excellent DOST Scholars during the “In Touch With Excellence” event.

“This year’s theme perfectly reflects the Department’s commitment in making a profound impact in the country’s national development by showcasing local technologies and services through the offerings of our regional and provincial offices,” said DOST-VIII Regional Director Edgardo M. Esperancilla.

Likewise, fifty-three inventors and researchers served as qualifiers and competed for the 2019 RICE.

RICE gives due recognition to the best efforts of the inventors and researchers including the students.

“I am confident that our regional winners for this year have lots of potentials to win in NICE next year,” said Esperancilla.
