DOST TAPI holds its second Gawad Alunig x Dalumat Science Journalism Contest

DOST-TAPI launched Gawad Alunig x Dalumat, a Science Journalism Competition, to inspire students and other aspiring writers and broadcasters to showcase their talent by sharing science stories and highlighting innovation in the Philippines.

The winners will receive cash prizes! The awards ceremony will take place in Pasay City, Philippines, in October of this year, at the National Youth Science Technology Innovation Festival (NYSTIF).

Stories of science innovation that are highlighted at Gawad Alunig x Dalumat may be eligible for clusteRICE, a national program run by the Department of Science and Technology's Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI). This program's major goal is to honor Filipino innovators' hard work and talent in the context of Philippine society and the country's economic growth.

This year's invention competition is open to researchers and inventors from the public and private sectors who are located in the cluster of the National Capital Region, Southern Luzon, Northern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The Gawad Alunig x Dalumat entry deadline has been extended to July 31, 2023, at 5 p.m. Join the Gawad Alunig x Dalumat! Who knows? Your stories of innovation might be eligible for CLUSTERICE, too!

DOST TAPI holds its second Gawad Alunig x Dalumat Science Journalism Contest

DOST-TAPI is back at it once again!

The Gawad Alunig x Dalumat, established by DOST-TAPI, aims to celebrate science communication and increase appreciation for science and innovation through writing and broadcasting.

Everyone is encouraged to become more involved in and capable of sharing real-life scientific stories through this competition.

According to DOST-TAPI Director Atty. Marion Ivy Decena, "Information is power. Correct information is transformative. In this era of misinformation and fake news, there is a greater need to provide accurate and timely information."

Start doing what you love and earning incredible prices by joining Gawad Alunig x Dalumat!

For the winners of the Science Broadcast, one Gawad Alunig Best Kalipunan Student Correspondent will receive 50,000 pesos, one Gawad Alunig First Runner Up will receive 20,000 pesos, three Kalipunan Student Correspondent runners up will receive 10,000 pesos each, and the Gawad Alunig People's Choice Awards will receive 10,000 pesos!

There is more! For Science Publication, Another 50,000 pesos will be awarded for the Gawad Dalumat Best Science School Publication, 10,000 pesos for the two Gawad Dalumat runners-up, and 10,000 pesos for each of the three Gawad Dalumat Top Science Stories winners, for a total of 100,000 pesos!

Guidelines are easy to follow! Both Creative Youth Research and Local Inventors/Innovators Researchers are proposed subjects for entries to Gawad Alunig, which requires entries to be news-style videos. Also, there must be at least two stories involving science, technology, or innovation in the submission piece for Gawad Dalumat, which can be online or in print.

The deadline for submissions for Gawad Alunig x Dalumat is extended until July 31, 2023, 5 p.m. Awarding will take place during the National Youth Science Technology Innovation Festival (NYSTIF) in Pasay City in October this year.
